Student Equipment Checkout

Students who are interested in checking out equipment should visit to the Instructional Media Services desk located in the lower level of the Paul J. Gutman Library.

Click Here for a full list of equipment available for students.

(Note: Students may only checkout Blue tagged items. Faculty and Staff may checkout Red tagged items. Please check with an OIR staff member if any specialty tagged items are required.)

Students are allowed to borrow an item for a maximum of the 72 hours (3 days). Once the item has been identified as "checked-out" in the IMS system, an IMS worker will create a work order confirmation that will send an email notification to the student's account.

Location of Instructional Media Services

The IMS Desk is located in the lower level of Gutman Library. Students who wish to checkout out equipment should visit the IMS desk. Students wishing to speak to an OIR staff member should inform the IMS desk worker.

Policy

IMS is always looking for the most up-to-date equipment for the university environment to utilize. IMS has different policies in place for different items with the Red, Blue, and Specialty tag system. If a student wishes to hold an event on campus, the student must have a sponsor. That sponsor can be a club sponsor, professor, or staff member.

For information on item and event policies please contact the IMS Desk through the Technology Help Desk.

Link to Event Information

A faculty or staff sponsor must place a request for an event to the Technology Help Desk. That individual will be responsible for placing the support request and acting as the point of contact for the event.

Equipment Available to Students

All of our equipment is separated by Blue, Red and Specialty tags. These tags determine what can be checked out and by whom. The IMS tag system is divided into three categories.

Click Here to see the full list of items available to students.

Blue tagged items can be checked out by students, while Red tagged items cannot be checkout by students and are only available for faculty and staff members. Specialty tags can only be checked out by certain individuals. For example, professors can ask IMS to hold digital media equipment for their students to use for projects. Items held by IMS will be given a Specialty tag color meaning only those individual students may check them out.

How to Use

In many Philadelphia University classrooms there are PC Podiums and Computer Carts. Some of the PC Podiums and Computer Carts also have DVD players, and a cable to attach VGA capable laptops. These cables are connected to ceiling mounted projectors that will allow users to display PowerPoint lectures, videos, and more.

These tools will help enhance the teaching experience for both professors and students. The PC Podium and Computer Cart will have a Lenovo PC and Monitor with mouse and keyboard.

When using the Lenovo computers, users should log in with their network Username/Password. For students, this combination is "student/Yourusername". For faculty/staff members, the login combination is "philacol/Yourusername".

Students/faculty/staff members that require assistance with checked-out IMS equipment should contact the Technology Help Desk. Users may request this help at any point in time, whether it is before, during, or after the item has been checked-out. IMS student workers are trained to help users with all IMS equipment.
