CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Class of 2008
Spring 2007
Through a closely integrated sequence of courses and
seminars, four broad curricular themes are emphasized:
Occupational Performance:
Person-Environment-Occupation
This underlying theory base for the program focuses on
enhancing the fit between individuals, their environments,
and the occupations in which they engage.
Evidence-based Practice and
Professional Development
Professional competence is acquired through a lifelong
commitment to professional development. This concept comes
to life in the program through a structured Professional
Development Process, the Master's Portfolio Project, and the
Internet-Based Mentoring Program.
Collaboration and Professional Advocacy
Through classroom and virtual small group learning
activities and the electronic mentoring program, students
learn to collaborate with other occupational therapy
professionals. In addition, collaboration with students in
the schools of design, architecture, and textiles establish
skills in working with, learning from, and teaching other
disciplines.
Innovative Learning Strategies and
Critical Thinking
The program's hybrid distance-learning model
incorporates multiple, highly integrated learning models and
methodologies. This variation fosters critical thinking
skills and self-evaluative thought processes across a
variety of student learning styles.
