ACCREDITATION & CERTIFICATION

PROGRAM ACCREDITATION:

The occupational therapy program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

The Office is located at:
4720 Montgomery Lane,
P.O. Box 31220,
Bethesda, MD 20824-1220.

ACOTE’s phone number, c/o AOTA, is 301.652.AOTA (2682). Visit AOTA online at www.aota.org.

UNIVERSITY ACCREDITATION:

Philadelphia University is accreditated by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools Commission on Higher Education.  The University was most recently reaccredited in 2006.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION:

Graduates of the program will be able to sit for the National Certification Examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).

In addition, most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination.

Important Information

Individuals who have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor may be denied certification or licensure as a health professional.  Information regarding individual eligibility may be obtained from the appropriate credentialing bodies.  Clinical rotation and fieldwork sites may require a criminal background check and/or child abuse check in order to permit participation in the clinical experience, rotation or fieldwork.  Participation in clinical experiences, rotations or fieldwork is a required part of the curriculum and a requirement for graduation.  Clinical rotation and fieldwork sites may deny a student's participation in the clinical experience, rotation or fieldwork because of a felony or misdemeanor conviction, failure of a required drug test, or inability to produce an appropriate health clearance, which would result in delayed graduation or in the inability to graduate from the program.
