Description

The physician assistant in concert with the supervising physician will provide treatment of acute and chronic orthopedic problems as well as preventive care. The physician assistant shall be considered the agent of the supervising physician in the performance of all practice-related activities including the ordering of diagnostic, therapeutic and other medical services. The physician assistant shall augment the physicians’ data gathering abilities and assist the supervising physician in reaching decisions and instituting care plans for the patients. The physician assistant will initiate treatment or be sure that the treatment plan is being carried out, assess the progress of that treatment and alter the plan as necessary. The physician assistant may order, prescribe, dispense and administer drugs, medical devices, diagnostic or therapeutic medial regimens as designated by his/her supervising physician. The physician assistant will provide care, including performing physical exams, recording medical history and completing orthopaedic consultations. These tasks will be conducted in the office setting as well as in the hospital and will include rounding as well as first assistant in surgery.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant educational program with a Masters Degree
  • Experience in orthopedics is preferred but not required
  • Certification National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(NCCPA)
  • 100 CME credits completed every 2 years
  • BLS and ACLS certification
