The Physician Practices Plan of Hahnemann University Hospital is seeking to hire a Physician Assistant for the Neurosurgery Practice.  The practice is presently composed of two attending Neurosurgeons and two Physician Assistants.  The position is well suited for a responsible and energetic PA who desires operating room experience.

The Neurosurgery PA is the first line of intake, evaluation, assessment and care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  Clinical responsibilities include assisting in operative procedures and performing small procedures, such as lumbar procedures, shunt taps, and placement of ICP monitoring devices.  The PA is primary on-call respondent for the department, including consultations. Non-clinical roles in administrative and research activities are also required.  The PA is expected to be active in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with department and hospital goals.

The candidate must be a graduate of a certified PA program and have successfully passed the national certifying examination and be certified by the NCCPA.  Applicants must be licensed in the state of PA or be eligible for licensure.  Experience and familiarity with neurosurgical problems is preferred.  Surgical experience necessary.
