Within the framework
of its core courses, common to all business
majors, the School systematically guides
students through increasing levels of
comprehension and competence in the areas of
communication, global perspectives, ethical
discernment, computer technology, analytical
ability and professional behavior. Beginning
with the introduction of fundamental concepts
and proceeding throughout the four-year
sequence, these competencies are developed,
reinforced and integrated across all major areas
of study.
Professional skills and knowledge are essential
components of a successful career. As part of
the educational experience, Philadelphia
University students are expected to acquire
skills in six areas:
-
analytical skills -- the ability to identify
a problem or opportunity and design a
reasonable course of action.
-
ethical discernment -- the ability to
respect the environment and fellow beings.
-
global perspective -- an understanding of
the consequences of their actions within a
broad context.
-
technology and information literacy -- the
ability to use resources in a meaningful
way.
-
communication skills -- the ability to argue
and persuade effectively.
-
professionalism -- an understanding of
business culture and how to succeed.
We do this by incorporating activities in our
core courses that emphasize these skills, and as
students progress through these courses over
four years of study; the exercises build upon
one another and the level of expectations
increase. These activities and how we assess our
success in achieving our goal of refining the
skills within our students is evolutionary. A
description of these activities is available.
