The Undergraduate
Business Core is
comprised of 13
courses that are
taken by all
business majors.
Beginning with four
courses in the
freshman year and
ending with the
capstone course in
the senior year,
these courses are
designed to provide
business majors with
a broad knowledge
and understanding of
basic business
functions such as
marketing,
accounting,
economics,
management,
information systems,
business law and so
on.
At Philadelphia
University, the
School of Business
Administration also
uses these courses
to provide its
students with a
series of special
activities that are
designed to help
develop their
professional skills
and enhance their
personal growth.
These “activities”
(the umbrella term
we use to cover all
these varied
experiences) may
take the form of
watching and
discussing a video,
locating and
downloading
information from the
Internet, making
informal and formal
presentations,
learning how to
conduct themselves
in professional
settings, or
exercises designed
to expand students’
global perspectives.
The objective of
this initiative is
to systematically
cultivate analytical
and communication
skills,
technological
competence and
literacy, ethical
discernment, global
perspectives, and
professionalism.
The activities are
conducted uniformly
in all sections of
the business core
courses, so
regardless of the
section of a core
course, for example
Financial
Accounting, all
business majors will
have the same
experience.
We encourage our
business students to
keep in mind
throughout their
Philadelphia
University
experience that both
academic knowledge
and personal and
professional growth
are essential parts
of their preparation
for entry,
advancement and
success in the
business world.
