ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF LIBERAL ARTS
The Philadelphia University approach is one that combines the best of a strong liberal arts and sciences tradition with a professionally oriented curriculum. Students progress through a sequence of foundational coursework, making connections between disciplines and viewing their own fields of choice through larger social, economic, political and cultural lenses. It’s a journey that we call College Studies – and it forms the backbone of every student’s major, bringing classmates together to share a common educational experience and learn from each other’s diverse perspectives.

Two realities fuel our College Studies effort: the inevitability of future change – in the economy, technology, the workplace or career goals – and the necessity of communication, critical thinking, research and computer-literacy skills – as well as a global vision and an ethical fiber – to achieve success in any profession.

Our successful College Studies program, which includes courses in the Arts and Culture, History, Humanities, Languages, Area Studies, Quantitative Reasoning, Science, Social Sciences and Writing, has been awarded grants from the American Council on Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education. The emphasis of our program is on relevance. Our faculty work very hard to create exciting, innovative courses that are meaningful extensions of your majors.
