A Foreign Affair: The 2004 International Games Festival

On Wednesday, December 1, 2004 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., the Foreign Language Program sponsored the Second Annual International Games Festival. Games and creative activities from France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Spain, and South America were featured and were introduced to students by program instructors.

For example, Dr. Angelini demonstrated the techniques of the French lawn bowling game of Pétanque and served as line judge for the competitions. Prof. Eiko Shimada guided students with the intricacies of the Japanese art of Origami. Prof. Peale introduced the South America card game of Canasta (which became very popular in the U.S. in the early 1950s). Prof. Boettjer played a German board game, Glueckshaus, with dice and pennies with students.

Local companies, such as Trade Secret and Barnes and Noble, donated prizes. All events were free and all Philadelphia University students were invited to participate.
