Meriel Tulante grew up in Oxford (UK) but then defected to Cambridge to study French and Italian, during which time she spent a year at 'La Sapienza' in Rome. The next move was to Cambridge MA, where she began a PhD in Italian literature at Harvard. She spent her final year of the PhD writing up her dissertation in West Philadelphia coffee shops, where she now lives, graduated in Nov. 2006 and is now beginning her second year at Philadelphia University.
