A MESSAGE
FROM THE DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF SCIENCE & HEALTH
What’s New in the School of Science and
Health?
The School of Science and Health has gone through some
exciting changes and is in a period of dynamic growth and
change. We are enthusiastically looking toward the future
with new programs, new laboratory facilities, new research
initiatives and new faculty.
Our new gross anatomy laboratory designed by Dr. Evan
Goldman is a wonderful learning space that is used by
undergraduate and graduate students in our
physician
assistant,
pre-medical and
occupational therapy programs. We
are also looking forward to renovated chemistry laboratory
facilities this year. This new space will support a new way
of teaching science that blends lecture and lab into a
seamless discovery experience.
Our new Pre-medical Studies and
Environmental and
Conservation Biology majors are growing and thriving. The
Pre-medical Program features an innovative curriculum that
includes hands-on Preceptorship experiences in medical
settings; stimulating laboratory experiences such as
exposure to human cadavers; MCAT preparation seminars and
activities; and medically related science courses such as
microbiology, genetics, pathology, histology, anatomy and
physiology, biochemistry and immunology taught in a
case-based format that brings scientific theory to life. The
new
Environmental and Conservation Biology major includes
the opportunity for extensive field study including short
trips and study abroad opportunities in Africa, Mexico,
Jamaica, Yellowstone National Park and other locations.
We are also excited about the launching of the new
distance-education
Master of Science in Disaster Medicine
and Management degree which will serve the needs of our
region and the country; and the nation’s first combined
Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies/ MBA
program.
Students in our school participate in research with their
professors. We are very proud of their accomplishments in
publishing articles and presenting their work at regional
and national meetings.
I am very excited to announce the hiring of new full-time
faculty in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, environmental
science, mathematics, anatomy and physiology, midwifery,
psychology and physician assistant studies. These talented
scientists and health professionals will contribute
substantially to our learning community.
Most notably we are tremendously proud of our graduates as
they pursue their futures as scientists at leading
pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies; health
professionals at the nation’s top hospitals; medical
students and graduate students in excellent mental health
professional programs.
I encourage you to discover our programs, visit our campus
and speak with our faculty as we explore the mind, the body
and the universe. If you have any questions please feel free
to call me at (215) 951-2677.Matt Dane Baker
