UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS: PRE-MED

PRE-MEDICINE

Why Study Pre-Medicine?

Students planning to pursue a career in medicine, dentistry, optometry or veterinary medicine can major in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or biopsychology.

In addition to gaining a strong foundation in the sciences, as a pre-medicine student you will also receive support services to help you best prepare for application to medical school.

Pre-Medicine at PhilaU

Outstanding curricula in biology, biochemistry and chemistry (the latter two accredited by the American Chemical Society) give students a top-notch foundation for medical study. This includes two unique courses in Histology and Pathology not normally taught at undergraduate level but provide students with an integrated perspective of health and disease:

Pathology
(see http://faculty.philau.edu/CundellD/s240_pathology.htm for details) and
Histology
(see http://faculty.philau.edu/CundellD/histology.htm for details)

A faculty pre-medicine advisor maintains close ties with the admissions directors of area medical, dental and veterinary schools, and assists students in preparation for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). In addition, students are now able to receive excellent preparation for the MCATs by enrolling in the Kaplan Test and Preparation Course held here on the Philadelphia University campus. For more information on Kaplan, visit http://www.kaptest.com

Individual relationships with faculty provide mentoring to help you succeed and to explore the best career path for you.
