Why Study Science & Business?
Executives from pharmaceutical,
chemistry, bio-technical,
agricultural, plastics,
environmental and other related
companies serve as professional
mentors, providing opportunities for
students to participate in
internships and to be recruited
after graduation.
A five-year B.S./M.B.A. option is
available within the program.
In addition to entering a career
track, graduates are qualified to go

Science &
Business at PhilaU
Leaders in the chemical,
pharmaceutical and other
science-related industries have
recognized that in addition to the
knowledge of sound management
principles, an understanding of the
fundamentals of science and the
vital role technology plays in every
aspect of modern society is
essential to the background of
future managers. The business and
science major is designed to meet
these needs.
A unique feature of this major is
its integrative nature. The common
goal for all students is mastery of
the technical and managerial skills
necessary to define and solve
problems in today's complex
technological society. The structure
of this dual major gives the student
flexibility in meeting this goal
while providing a cohesive
curriculum encompassing a wide range
of coursework.
This innovative program is the
result of a partnership between
industry and the University. The
program is designed to meet the
increasing need of America's rapidly
growing chemical and pharmaceutical
industries for a new generation of
managers: managers with
comprehensive training in both
business and science.
Graduates from this program are in
demand. They qualify for a variety
of entry-level positions in the
chemical, pharmaceutical,
agro-chemical, petrochemical,
environmental and plastics
industries. A business advisory
board consisting of professionals
from these industries provides
expert advice on curricular
development and career possibilities
for our students. In addition, this
program has been designed to provide
our students with the flexibility to
pursue graduate work in chemistry as
well as business administration.
Within the program, students elect
one of two science areas -- biology
or chemistry. The biology option is
available in the day only. The
chemistry option is available in the
day and in the evening.
Check sheets are used to
summarize progress in the program.
