Why Study
Biology ?

Biology majors investigate life from the molecular to the ecosystems level through a diverse selection of courses and research programs.

Graduates with a B.S. in biology are well qualified to enter graduate or professional programs, or to pursue a career in biotechnology or health care.

Biology at PhilaU

Students and faculty pursue research interests ranging from microbial pathogenesis, novel antibiotics, bioremediation, tropical diversity, invasive plant and animal management, forest regeneration, plant development and evolution and molecular systematic.

Students help maintain Fairmount Park land adjacent to the University as part of the Friends of the Wissahickon Stewardship Program.

Field opportunities are available in areas such as the New Jersey Shore, Delaware Bay, the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, the Pine Barrens in New Jersey, Hawk Mountain, Fort Washington State Park, Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, Schuylkill Center, Yellowstone National Park and Jamaica.

The Science in Action Club offers a diverse schedule of activities that run the gamut from assisting at the Philadelphia Zoo to visiting the Mutter Museum.
