Valerie earned her B.A. in East Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, her MA in Creative Writing from Temple University, and her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the Pennsylvania State University. At PhilaU, she has taught a variety of writing and liberal arts courses for the general education program; courses for the Communication Program; and Business Models for the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce core.  

Valerie also serves as Program Director for the Hallmarks Core, the general education core curriculum. Her research interests focus on arguments around emerging technologies, visual images, and science; pedagogy; and poetry.
