Dana Perlman is an innovative and progressive educator and policy advocate.  She graduated with a MSN in midwifery and nursing and a Post-MS Certificate in teaching from the University of Pennsylvania.  She directs all aspects of the Midwifery Institute.  She has developed simulation and task training to support acquisition of midwifery skills and role development.  She supervises advanced clinical practice independent studies.

Her professional interests include multiple routes of entry to professional midwifery education and full practice authority.  She serves as Vice-Chair of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) Committee for the Advancement of Midwifery Practice and as the legislative co-chair for the Pennsylvania ACNM.  She provides state professional organization leadership and serves as a resource to other states to advance legislation and regulation to improve access to midwifery.

Prior to her career in academia and policy, she served as a full scope midwife at Pennsylvania Hospital, in FQHCs, and private practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
