SIGNATURE LEARNING: STATUS & ACTIVITIES
Developing New/Enhanced Curriculum Developing new teaching and learning strategies highlighting university strengths
Progress:
- Exploration of connected learning opportunities begun Proposals underway for courses to support Signature Learning and Design, Engineering and Commerce (DEC) (e.g., grant funding for project development initiated)
- Developed a wider reaching strategic plan and teaching and learning approaches for the School of Business Administration
- Developing a SBA-specific First Year Program requiring all business students to develop a business plan
- Using new technologies effectively both inside and outside the classroom for distance and hybrid learning.
- Continue to develop/use new technologies for distance, on-campus and hybrid programs
- Adobe Connect used in Disaster Medicine and Midwifery
- Occup. Therapy and Physician Assistant program in training
- Podcasting now in use by faculty, including S. Spinelli, R. Wilson, M. Rackover, C. Pastore, R. Fleming and for six foreign languages in the School of Liberal Arts.
- Hybrid Learning increased by use of Blackboard and Moodle software
- Further collaboration tools such as blogs, wikis, SharePoint and iChat in use by School of Architecture, School of Liberal Arts Student Activities and others for information sharing and collaboration
Establishing the Center for Signature Learning
Progress:
- Implementation plan completed
- Co-Directors appointed (M. Roydhouse and J. Antheil)
- Faculty development started to identify signature pedagogies and teaching strengths(the iterative design process, real world problems, hands-on science exploration, active learning and emphasis upon self-reflective learning)
Implementing ePortfolio across the campus
Progress:
- Taskforce formed and pilot underway with involvement from faculty, staff and the Office of Information Resources
- Software in place beta testing underway
- Office of Information Technology, Academic Affairs and Career Counseling partnering; pilot testing involving 20 faculty and staff and more than 100 students in progress. Expansion of pilot in Spring 2010
Examples of University-wide collaborations
- Lace Futures -- A series of ongoing projects resulting in exhibits and installations around the "Lace" theme, involving the landscape architecture, textile-, interior-, fashion- and industrial design programs.
- Corian-DuPont Project – Students collaborating on the creation of a workstation based on a program developed in the context of a specific interior architecture.
