 The
annual
Collab Student Design Competition
brings design students from area colleges
and universities together to take on a
uniquely creative challenge. This year
participants, including architecture,
industrial design, interior design, jewelry
and printmaking majors from seven
institutions, entered 96 projects. Based on
the "Furniture Classics for the Future"
theme, which reflected the rich history of
renowned designer Florence Knoll's
contribution to the language of design
through the exploration of furniture
typologies, the students were asked to
reinvent a chair chosen from the Knoll
Studio line.
The
2004 competition and award presentation
event was organized by Philadelphia
University Industrial Design Professor Josh
Owen.
Industrial
Design student Adam Johnson shared the first
place award with a University of the Arts
student for his redesign of the Bertoia
chair, while Industrial Design student Josh
Aukema won First Honorable Mention for his
interpretation of the Florence Knoll Lounge
chair.
