Health Insurance

All full-time day undergraduate students, graduate students in health sciences programs within the College of Science, Health and the Liberal Arts, accelerated students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program and all international students are required to be covered by a medical insurance policy either through his or her family or by insurance offered through the University. Students in the aforementioned programs are billed automatically for the annual University policy. 

Students who have private coverage may waive the University policy by completing the online waiver in Web Advisor by the second Friday in September (annually). Students who begin their studies in the Spring semester must complete the waiver by the first Friday in February. Students who have private coverage can waive this coverage via WebAdvisor.

Part-time undergraduate students enrolled in at least six credits and part-time graduate students enrolled in at least three credits may opt to enroll in the University-sponsored health and accident plan by contacting the Student Accounts Office at studentaccounts@philau.edu during open enrollment period. Open enrollment for the fall semester ends the second Friday in September and open enrollment for the spring semester is January 1st through the first Friday in February. Outside the open enrollment period, students may complete a Qualifying Event form within 30 days the loss of coverage from another health insurance plan. 


Needle stick Policy

Graduate students in Physican's Assistant Studies program will be automatically enrolled in the Needle stick Policy.  This policy provides insurance coverage should a student be exposed to blood borne pathogens.  The annual policy will be billed in the fall semester. If the student has private health coverage to cover needle sticks, the coverage may be waived via WebAdvisor. Students who are billed for the Needle stick policy and use the University-sponsored health iand accident plan can not waive the Needle stick policy. 

Other graduate students in the health sciences programs within the College of Science, Health and the Liberal Arts and accelerated students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program may opt to purchase this coverage by contacting  the Student Accounts Office at studentaccounts@philau.edu and requesting coverage before the first Friday in September. 


Rates

Students will be billed for half of the annual policy in the fall semester and half of the annual policy in the spring semester. Students who withdraw, graduate, or for any reason do not enroll for the spring semester will only have coverage through December 31st.  Students who were full-time in the fall semester and enroll part-time for the spring semester will need to request coverage for the spring as a part-time studentStudents who begin their studies during the spring semester will be billed the spring/summer rate.
