In past cultures, tribes and clans found various methods to make musical instruments to be used to enhance rituals, communicate across distances, communicate with the spirit world, and for celebrations. Instruments were made from materials and objects that were readily available.

 

On Thursday Evenings, during SURVIVE!, there will be several “Councils” taking place on the campus green. You are to design and build an instrument "inspired and influenced" by the research on your tribe  and its environs but transformed by new materials and found objects. The instrument will be judged on conceptual, aesthetic,  and tonal qualities.
