Is your phone set plugged into the proper wall jack?

"Voice" or phone jacks are differentiated from "Data" or network jacks by a number containing the letter V, such as 49VA001

Has the telephone cord been unplugged/ detached from the jack or telephone for an extended period of time?

When a telephone has been unplugged or if the cord is accidentally detached from the jack or telephone, the telephone will become disabled in our telephone system.  The user will not hear a dial tone as a result.  If this happens, please contact Telecommunications.

Do you hear a busy signal BEFORE you finish making an off-campus call?

Make sure you are dialing "9" before the telephone number in order to access an outside line.

If you are dialing another '215' area code number, do not use a '1' before the area code (i.e. dial 9-215-xxx-xxxx)

If this is a new area code, the area code may not be programmed into the University's telephone system.  Please contact Telecommunications if this is the case.
