Philadelphia U.

Philadelphia University's local calling area (i.e. calls in which you do not need to use a calling card, credit card or PIN#) are all Philadelphia telephone exchanges within Zone 3 (as defined by Verizon) and the suburbs of Cheltenham, Elkins Park, Flourtown, and Jenkintown.  To see a list of Philadelphia's telephone exchanges and corresponding zones, please click here.

To call outside of the University's local calling area, interstate, or international, students are required to use a calling card, credit card or PIN# provided by Strategic Telecommunications Consulting (STC).  PIN#s and information are generally mailed to the student from STC before the start of the Fall and Spring semester.  However, if you did not receive your PIN#, you must go to the Office of Information Technology with your Student ID.  STC will send you a bill on a monthly basis to your University Mailbox, unless otherwise specified.  If you have questions regarding your bill or other STC-related questions, please contact them at:

Our fine print

bullet

No long distance monthly fees

bullet

No surcharges for long distance calls

bullet

Long distance calling from any student housing telephone

bullet

24-hour account balance service

bullet

All calls made from student residences or student dial phones require a PIN# except for calls to the University's Local Calling Area and toll free calls.  In the unlikely event that a call is placed without a PIN being required, all students assigned to that extension will be responsible for determining who placed the call, and the subsequent payment of that call.

Calling card fine print

bullet

Telephone calling cards typically advertise only their lowest rate of the day.  The large print shows you a 10 cent per minute rate - but your day rate may be as high as 45 cents per minute!

bullet

Most calling cards charge a surcharge on every call.  The typical surcharge can be as high as 85 cents per call!

bullet

Most calling cards offer a lower rate on out-of-state calls. However, in-state calls could be double the rate of out of state calls!
