Candace Foster: Scotland

The study abroad program here at Philadelphia University has allowed me to expand my knowledge in the field of textile design while experiencing new cultures. While living in Scotland, I was able to learn and understand more about other cultures. Not only did I live and experience the Scottish way of life, but its diverse culture enabled me to befriend people from all over the world.

Studying abroad has enhanced my creativity, giving me another outlook on design capabilities. Living and studying in Scotland was one of the most gratifying experiences in my life, both academically and personally.

Sophia Thomas: Italy

When I was leaving for Rome I had no idea what to expect. I was anxious, nervous and extremely excited. At first it was hard to adjust to another culture but after a couple weeks it became second nature.

Everything is Rome was new and exhilarating. It wasn’t long before my friends and I started sight seeing and going on trips all over Europe. Of course school was great too. The classes were amazing with the coolest teachers. They had everything to choose from to sketching classes where you travel around Rome and sketch to cinema classes where you learn about Italian cinema and its influence.

I thought that since I wasn’t taking any textile classes in Rome that the semester would be more like a vacation but from all my travels and experiences I found so many things that have influenced my work and designs. My semester in Rome is a time I will never forget.

Being able to study abroad in Rome, Italy was an opportunity of a lifetime. When else will you ever be able to take a four month holiday and get credit for it? The places we traveled to, people we met, and friendships we made will always be some of the best memories I'll have.

Tina Lai: Italy

Philadelphia University’s study abroad program is a wonderful opportunity to live, travel and experience life in a different country. For four months, I was surrounded by the magnificent art history that Rome had to offer. Not only did I enhance my knowledge and gain inspirations, the interactions with the Italian culture has enriched my personal life. Being in Rome has been one of the most unforgettable experiences ever.
