University Community Reaches Out
to Hurricane Katrina Victims

In the wake of the devastation along the Gulf Coast left by Hurricane Katrina, Philadelphia University has several fundraising and relief efforts planned to help the many thousands of victims.

Both money and necessary items (including blankets, towels, wash clothes, combs, nail files, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and Band-aids) will be collected on campus this Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 7 and 8, and next Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 14 and 15, to send to hurricane victims.  Collection boxes will be placed at Hayward Hall, Ravenhill Dining Hall and the Student Center.

In addition, money to aid the victims will be collected at the Community Service Office in the Student Center on those days.  Checks should be made out to Philadelphia University, with Katrina Relief Fund written in the memo line.

Also, Philadelphia University students will be collecting donations from shoppers on Saturday, Sept. 10, outside the ACME market on City Line Avenue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The campus community is invited to help pack these items on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19 and 20, in Downs Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Finally, Philadelphia University would accept college students who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina.  For information, contact the Admissions Office at 215.951.2800.
