’07, Fashion Design; Megan Lindaman ’07, Textile Design; and Jocelyn
Park ’07, Graphic Design Communication, who previously took Assistant
Professor of Graphic Design Maribeth Kradel-Weitzel’s and Assistant
Professor of CAD EJ Herczyk’s Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies class,
a two-week, study-abroad course held at the Altos de Chavon School of
Design in the Dominican Republic, recently received a Gold Award for
Excellence in the competitive publication, Graphis New Talent Annual
(2007/2008 issue). They were awarded for their development of a
fictional organization Viralata (“dog of the street”), a nonprofit
fashion house that caters to the pet-obsessed American, and its
colorful, playful Dominican-inspired canine fashions. In addition,
Charles Pflaumer’07, Graphic Design Communication, advised by Prof.
Kradel-Weitzel, is also featured in this year’s publication for a Haba
Zao Beverage package design he created, along with Ryan Hayes ’07,
Graphic Design Communication, advised by Associate Professor of Graphic
Design Frank Baseman, for his cover design for the book The Trials
and Tribulations of a Baseball Card Collector. Graphis is
the only forum for the year’s best, internationally produced student
work.
