James C. Garvey, Ed.D., Named Philadelphia University Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations
Philadelphia University President Stephen Spinelli Jr., Ph.D., announced today the appointment of James C. Garvey, Ed.D., as vice president of Development and Alumni Relations. Garvey, who is succeeding John Pierantozzi, will assume his new post at Philadelphia University on Feb. 1, 2008. He currently serves as the associate dean for Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. Before joining Penn, Garvey spent 12 years as the director of Development for the William Penn Charter School. His extensive background also includes executive positions in sales and marketing. In addition, he is active in the community, served on the Board of the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools and holds membership in a number of professional organizations.
Garvey earned a doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.B.A. from Temple University and a Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College.
“Philadelphia University will benefit enormously from Jim’s accomplishments and expertise,” said Dr. Spinelli. “He is a gifted professional and is ideally suited to take the helm in advancing our fundraising agenda. This is an exciting time at Philadelphia University and Jim will be a valuable addition to our team as we take this dynamic, forward-thinking institution to the next level. Initially, Jim will direct his attention to putting the systems in place that will produce maximum results.”
Pierantozzi, who has served as the vice president for Development and Alumni Relations since 2000, will now focus entirely on areas that will help the University achieve its fundraising goals—major gifts and government relations. “We are fortunate that John will continue to be an important part of the team,” said Dr. Spinelli. “He is a talented professional who has devoted most of his career to this University and who successfully led us through the largest fundraising campaign in our history. I thank John for his efforts to date and look forward to working with him in his new role.”
