Exciting Basketball Doubleheader Ends Seasons' Home Games; Women Win in 3OT
The Philadelphia University’s men and women’s doubleheader basketball games Saturday, Feb. 14 turned out to be a record-breaking season home-ender for the Lady Rams.
Senior guard Amanda Brennan of Stratford, N.J., sunk a career-high 39 points on Senior Day to lead her Lady Rams (16-8, 11-4 CACC) to a 114-104 victory triple-overtime victory over the Dominican College Chargers.
The game was the first triple-overtime contest played on Herb Magee Court and the most points scored in a single game in the program’s history.
The PhilaU women’s game against Dominican is the highest-scoring game in Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) history as a Division II conference. The previous record for points by a team in a single game was 108.
The women’s team returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Chestnut Hill College at 6 p.m.
The men’s basketball team (19-5, 11-2 CACC) overpowered the Dominican College in a 64-50 win on Herb Magee Court on Saturday evening. PhilaU junior forward Malcolm Ingram of Philadelphia led all scorers with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
The PhilaU men return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Chestnut Hill College at 8 p.m.
The PhilaU Rams joined the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) — and more than 1,500 schools and organizations — to participate in the 2009 WBCA Pink Zone fight against breast cancer on game day. The sale of T-shirts and pink carnations were Pink Zone fundraising activities.
