Exolation, a new external insulation product created by Rob Fleming, associate professor of architecture, Chris Pastore, professor of engineering, and former PhilaU professor Tom Twardowski, was touted in a story in the May 17 Philadelphia Inquirer. “It’s a scientific, artful, and socially beneficial product of local invention,” the story reported. Exolation, which received patent protection last month, was developed after Philadelphia officials asked the PhilaU group to develop a product that would insulate the outside walls of rowhouses after an adjoining house has been torn down. A search for a company to manufacture Exolation for widespread use is currently underway.
