M.S. in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the two-year Master’s of Science in Athletic Training program must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree: minimum overall 3.0 grade point average upon matriculation, official transcripts of all previous undergraduate or graduate study must be provided to the Philadelphia University Graduate Admission’s Office.
  • Two letters of recommendation: one academic and one professional.
  • Documentation of work and volunteer experiences: highlight achievements, recognitions and accomplishments
  • Documentation of minimum 100 hours of clinical observation under the supervision of a certified athletic trainer
  • Career goals statement/ personalessay: 500 words or less: Describe how you became interested in Athletic Training, and the qualities you possess that will enable you to be a successful student in this program and practitioner in the field.
  • M.S. in Athletic Training program prerequisite courses: A minimum grade of "B-" is required in each of the ten prerequisite courses, listed below.
    In order for the Admission Committee to review a candidate's application, final grades for at least 8 prerequisite courses (including a minimum of 5 science courses) must be completed.  
    A combined  average 3.0 GPA or higher in all prerequisite courses is an admission requirement (minimum grades of "B-" in each course). Courses may be completed at any accredited institution. All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to enrolling in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine coursework.
